The Biggest Challenge We Had To Overcome
The Halifax Home Remodelling website faced several obstacles that held back its online growth. The most pressing challenge was the poor technical performance of the site, which made it difficult for search engines to crawl and index effectively.
Additionally, the lack of optimised content meant the site was not addressing user needs or targeting relevant search queries. The scattered website structure further complicated navigation, frustrating both users and search engines.
Lastly, the absence of backlinks hindered the site’s ability to build authority, making it harder to compete in search engine rankings. Overcoming these issues required a detailed strategy and precise execution.
Organic Traffic Growth
First 6 Months (July – December 2017): Organic traffic increased by 301.43%. The update of content, on-page SEO, and technical fixes show a big improvement.
2nd Year (2018 vs. 2017)
In 2018, Halifax Home Remodelling saw a 46.89% increase in users and a 51.56% increase in sessions compared to 2017. This growth was primarily driven by technical improvements and initial content optimisation, which helped the website gain more visibility and attract a larger audience.
3rd Year (2019 vs. 2018)
In 2019, there was a notable decline in traffic, with users decreasing by 48.47% and sessions by 54.45%. This drop was due to a strategic decision to redesign the website, change its URL structure, and update the theme. While these changes temporarily disrupted the website’s performance, they laid the foundation for future growth.
4th Year (2020 vs. 2019)
In 2020, Halifax bounced back with a 111.59% increase in users and a 102.67% increase in sessions compared to 2020. The redesign and new URL structure started paying off as the website regained authority and rankings through better user experience and targeted content.
5th Year (2021 vs. 2020)
In 2021, growth continued steadily with a 56.68% increase in users and a 53.45% increase in sessions. The focus on high-quality content and consistent link-building helped maintain momentum, further strengthening the website’s presence in search results.
6th Year (2022 vs. 2021)
The most recent data shows a 25.76% increase in users and a 28.13% increase in sessions in 2022. This reflects the long-term benefits of the initial redesign and ongoing SEO efforts, proving the effectiveness of a sustainable growth strategy.
7th Year (2023 vs. 2022)
In 2023, Halifax Home Remodelling recorded 8,102 users and 9,623 sessions, compared to 7,529 users and 8,889 sessions in 2022. This marks a 7.6% increase in users and an 8.3% increase in sessions year-over-year.
The relatively steady growth reflects the ongoing benefits of our SEO strategies, particularly around maintaining content quality and link-building efforts. Additionally, the slight changes in metrics can also be attributed to the migration to GA4. Unlike Universal Analytics, GA4 uses a different data collection and processing method, leading to some discrepancies in comparisons between the two platforms. This migration limited our ability to provide a complete historical year-over-year analysis for all engagement metrics.
Despite these limitations, the growth in both users and sessions demonstrates the website’s consistent progress in attracting and retaining its audience.
Organic Keywords Growth (2017-2023)
In January 2017, the website ranked for 282 keywords, mostly in low positions (51+), with no keywords in the top 1-3 positions. By August 2023, it ranked for 2,697 keywords, with 116 in positions 1-3 and 84 in positions 4-10, showing significant improvement in visibility and rankings.
The growth reflects a 857% increase in total keywords, driven by sustained SEO efforts, including content optimisation, technical improvements, and link-building. While the redesign in 2019 caused temporary dips, the website recovered and saw consistent upward trends from 2021 onward, establishing strong search presence.

Referring Domain Growth
From 2019 to 2020, referring domains remained stagnant. A sharp increase occurred between 2021 and mid-2022, peaking due to focused backlink efforts. In 2023, domains stabilised at a higher level, reflecting sustained authority and long-term SEO success.
